Miss SL Universe Pageant 2009

I used to compete in RL pageants as a teenager. I loved the thrill and the glamour. Now that I'm 25, I'm considered too "old" for pageantry. Enter the Miss SL Universe Pageant. From the moment I heard about it's existence I knew what I wanted to do more than anything. Another chance to experience the excitement and prestige!

The Miss SL Universe Organization is run by Frolic Mills, the CEO of the Best of SL Magazine and owner of the Best of SL Boulevard. This guy really produces the BEST events and leaves no detail unattended. If you haven't been to the BOSL Boulevard, you need to check it out. Some of the best designers have shops on his sim.

Casting calls for the 2009 pageant began in March. I submitted my photos and eagerly waited. In April they announced the pre-finalists for that month. I wasn't on the list. Oh the disappointment! I knew that if I wanted to be a part of this I needed to step up my game. I tweaked my shape, took better photos and reapplied.

Last week, a note card was sent out with a list of names being asked to audition for a spot in the May pre-finals. I literally squealed when I saw my name on the list. I was on the list! Now I had a chance to show what I could do.

I arrived at the BOSL Boulevard runway and was among many models more experienced than me. They called my name literally 2 minutes after arriving and all I knew was that I had to walk to the end of the runway and pose for the judges. Sounds easy, right? The lag was so bad I nearly walked into the judges laps, (which could have either been good or bad.) :)

After what seemed a lifetime the pre-finalist list was sent out. I MADE IT! I swear I heard angels singing. LOL. Yes, I know I'm a dork. :) I was one of eight girls chosen to be May finalists. However, it's too soon to celebrate. Only 12 girls actually get to move on and compete in the finals of the pageant. There's a long road ahead of me, but I'm up for the challenge and willing to do whatever it takes. Hopefully, you will see me on the beautiful Miss SL Universe stage next year representing either the Czech Republic or the USA!
Babyhoney Bailey is the reigning Miss SL Universe 2008, crowned in February. The 2009 pageant is expected to be twice as large and even more glamorous, if you can imagine that. It will be held in February, 2009.

Just doing some wishful thinking here. LOL :)

Second Life's Next Fresh Face - Week 1

Our assignment for week 1 was to meet with the photographer and take a simple headshot. We were to choose our own look and use our own poses. The top 15 all had their photos taken and we were judged by the panel of judges and special guest judge Toko Voom of Vain, Inc. This was my best shot:

One by one we were called to the end of the runway to be critiqued. I received praise on my style and appearance, but was told I needed to work on standing out. I stayed out of the bottom two and will be competing again in week 2! Yay!

Wish me luck as I compete in week 2 of Second Life's Next Fresh Face! This week we are competing to be on the cover of an up and coming magazine!

Second Life's Next Fresh Face

Interviews were held today for the semi-finalists of the Second Life's Next Fresh Face contest at the Costa Rica International Airport. I was so excited to be a semi-finalist and I anxiously waited for my turn to be interviewed.

The interviews were held at the check in counter. Everyone was asked several questions by the panel of judges. I was asked what I felt I could learn from the experience and what I felt I needed to improve on. I also demonstrated my walk under the heavy lag we were experiencing.

After my interview I was lead the the VIP Lounge to wait with the other semi-finalists. We made nervous chit chat and waited for the remaining girls to finish up. At this point I had no idea how I did or what to expect. All I knew is that I really wanted to make the cut!

After everyone was finished the room was full of girls wondering if they had made it to the next round. We were told to line up and one by one, names were called to board the plane waiting for us outside. Those that were called were the Cycle 9 Finalists!

Nine names were called and I was still left standing. In my mind I prepared to go home. I felt like I was on a reality show, being voted off the island or not receiving a rose. Jare Capalini, the CEO told us that one more name would be called. My heart was racing and my palms were sweaty. Could it be me?

"Lacey, please board the plane." YAY! It WAS me! I was so happy to see my name called. I joined the others on the luxury plane where we were told about our living arrangements and upcoming assignments. I am officially a finalist for cycle 9 of Second Life's Next Fresh Face!

I'll keep the blog updated on the latest happenings. Next up is a glamorous photo shoot where we will be judged on our photographs. Wish me luck!

Hair of the Day

My friend Jhuzen Ketsugo TPed me to AOHARU the other day for a lucky chair (picked up an adorable dress) and while I was there I decided to check out the sim. Besides the adorable ice cream cone hats, the AOHARU sim provides men and women's clothing, hair and skins. I immediately dashed to the hair store and picked up this side-braid style called Elise in platinum. This is the one of the lightest shades of blonde available and as you can see it goes well with many different skin tones, from tan to olive to pale.

All of the hair at AOHARU comes in singles, 4 packs and fatpacks of 32 colors. At this time there are only a few styles available but I'm looking forward to see what they come out with in the future. They also do not provide color demos so choose your color wisely. However, the hair is very reasonably priced. You can get a 4 pack with 4 shades of your desired color for $280L.

Here's a tip no matter what color hair you're looking for: If the store doesn't provide color demos, try buying several demos of hair, even if you're not interested in the particular style. Chances are you might come across the color you're interested in, in a style you're not. That way you can still see how the hair color looks with your skin.

Hair Rant

I love hair. I love shopping for hair. I love finding good blonde hair! It's hard being blonde in Second Life®. In a sea of people with mostly black or brown hair, us blondes do stand out. But is it worth it? I've spent a lot of money buying multiple shades of blonde to match my skins. Sure, I could stick with just one skin but what fun is that? I have to give praise to those designers who offer demos and fairly priced multiple shade packs. Most designers already do this, but there are many that do not. So I beg of these designers new and old, help us blondes out! I have a folder full of (no transfer) hair that is either too orange, yellow, or white because I took a chance and bought a hair without a demo. I guess shame on me for not being careful. Don't get me started on skins with black eyebrows *Sigh*

Welcome Dumb Blondes and Those That Love 'Em

Hi and welcome to my blog! I hope I haven't offended anyone with my blog title. I mean, everyone knows that dumb blondes are just stereotypes! Wait, is that how you spell that? Anyway I'm glad you found my little blog. I'll be discussing virtual fashion, shopping, entertainment, music and basically anything that pops into my head. I love my second life, even though I still feel like a noob half of the time with a box on my hand and my shoes up my butt. There are many out there who continually help me and I am very grateful. I'll do my best to help out anyone in return. This blog is for all the dumb blondes, those who are inner dumb blondes, and those that love them! Welcome.
